Dawsons is a Registered Training Organisation, delivering High Risk Work Licences and Occupational Safety Training for our clients and in scheduled courses at our high risk training facility in Cairns. Initially becoming a licensed RTO to provide upskilling for our own workforce, we now deliver public courses and provide licensed training on and off site for our clients in the mining, marine, sugar and process industries.

Because we operate in the industries in which these skills are used, our training has been developed with real-world application at the front of mind, and our trainers are selected for their ability and passion to use their experience to deliver relevant and practical training. Sharon Dawson

Chief Executive Officer - Director

Starting to learn the ropes in the family business in 1999, Sharon's introduction to Dawsons was via the Labour Hire Department (having successfully convinced her father that she didn't need to complete a Diesel Fitting apprenticeship). She still gets a kick out of getting exactly the right person for the role but these days, she is responsible for all client facing activities and loves the challenge of working out custom solutions for Dawsons clients. Outside of work and sometimes at work, she is actively competing to be the best mum ever – well that's what she tells her four kids. Passionate about regional development, she has enjoyed varying roles with Cairns Chamber of Commerce, Advance Cairns, Ports North and Racing Queensland.

Serena Engel

Training Manager

After previously working at Dawsons, she took time off to travel before returning to lead the engine room of our Training Department. She drives the structure and logistics that allow our hands-on training to run seamlessly, ensuring students feel welcomed, valued, and ready to take their classroom learning into the field—keeping our workforce safe, skilled, and supported.

Training Administrator

Outside of Dawsons Training, she lives and breathes soccer, but when she’s in the office, she keeps our team operating at peak performance. As our Training Administrator, she has you covered—driving efficiency, staying on top of the details, and keeping our day-to-day operations running smoothly.
